Botanical History On This Day
2019 April Fools’ Day ushers in a month whose name comes from aperire, meaning “to open,” though northern gardeners know April opens cautiously, sometimes with snow.
1927 Peter Cundall, beloved Tasmanian gardener and host of Gardening Australia, was born. A lifelong advocate of organic gardening, Cundall inspired generations and famously coined the term “Cundallisation” after an especially enthusiastic pruning session.
Unearthed Words
Written in the aftermath of personal loss, “Sunlight on the Garden” by Louis MacNeice reflects on fleeting joy, the urgency of time, and gratitude for shared moments beneath rain and sun alike.
