Just when you thought you had winter beat…
You thought wrong.
Surprise.
Unpredictable weather.
Dicey temperatures.
Gardeners need resilience.
If Spring's arrival is dashing your hope, start looking for the survivors in your garden, neighborhood, city, and social media feed.
Every Spring, no matter the conditions, there are successes.
Hardy Daffodils.
Forsythia.
Lungwort.
Snowdrops.
Magnolias.
Look for the plants that survive and thrive despite the challenges of Spring.
Plant more of those plants.
Find joy in those plants.
Improve your resiliency by mirroring the resilience of your garden.
Botanical History On This Day
1854 Mary Hiester Reid, the preeminent female floral painter in Canada, was born on this day. Celebrated for her luminous gardens and woodland scenes, she became the first woman honored with a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Toronto.
1946 David Darrell, landscape architect and gentle steward of gardens throughout Maryland, was born. He is remembered for designing prayer gardens, courtyards, and public green spaces shaped by care rather than spectacle.
