1832 Josiah Hoopes, the West Chester nurseryman and Quaker entrepreneur who co-founded Marshall Square Park and built Hoopes, Bro. & Thomas into America’s largest nursery, was born.
1864 Dmitry Ivanovsky, the Russian botanist who uncovered the mystery of the tobacco mosaic virus and helped lay the foundation of modern virology, was born.
