Botanical History On This Day

1641 Nehemiah Grew, the Father of Plant Anatomy, was born. He was the first botanist to use microscopy to document the internal structure of plants in his landmark work Anatomy of Plants.

1844 German botanist Adolf Engler, was born. He was the creator of the Engler System of plant classification and a pioneer in defining plant families still used by botanists and gardeners today.
