Botanical History On This Day
1756 Lady Luxborough, Henrietta Knight, the English writer and gardener, died. She transformed her enforced isolation into a celebrated landscape at Barrells Hall and coined the garden term “shrubbery.”
1805 William Woodville, English physician and botanist, died. He was a pioneer of medicinal botany whose illustrated pharmacopeia helped physicians learn the healing power of plants.
