“Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature's inexorable imperative.”
1872 Birth of Robert Hiester Montgomery, American accountant and avid gardener who founded the Fairchild Tropical Garden in Florida, cultivating a vast collection of tropical palms at his Coconut Grove Palmetum.
1944 Birth of Fannie Flagg, American actress and author known for novels such as Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe and The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop. Her writings capture the beauty of Southern gardens and landscapes.
