Botanical History On This Day
1872 Birth of Anna Gilman Hill, Director of the Garden Club of America (1920-1926) and assistant editor of the Club's Bulletin. Hill was known for her practical gardening advice and passion for protecting plants.
In 1943, George Harrison, the "quiet Beatle," was born. An avid gardener, he once said, “I’m a gardener, basically," reflecting his deep connection to nature beyond fame and fortune.
In 1989, a play titled "Edna for the Garden" honored Australian gardener and conservationist Edna Walling, renowned for her lifelong dedication to garden design and environmental preservation.
