On this day in 1904, the horticultural world was graced with the birth of Paul J. Kremer, a botanist whose life's work would blossom into a legacy as enduring as the heartiest perennial.

Imagine, if you will, a young Kremer, his hands deep in the rich Ohio soil of his childhood farm.
