A Poem for the Aster: September’s Birth Flower
"Who longs for May-time blossoms?
Who cares for roses sweet?
When all September's Asters
Are flowering at our feet."

September's birth flower is the Aster.
Asters offer that happy yellow face encircled with rayed petals.
Asters are part of the sunflower or daisy family.
The Aster is named from the Greek word for star.
In Floriography ("FLOOR-EE-ah-grah-FEE"), the language of flowers, the Aster signifies farewell in a nod to the changing season. Farewell to the lazy days of summer, swimming pools and picnics, and farewell to the summer harvest.
A little anonymous poem about September and Asters was printed in The Bluff City News out of Kansas on October 2, 1903.
The short poem was published in several newspapers in 1903.
September's fields are golden.
Her skies are azure fair. And In her beauty holden
Are gifts beyond compare.Who longs for May-time blossoms?Who cares for roses sweet? When all September's AstersAre flowering at our feet.
